Enforcing Laws, Good or Bad?
With a law finally being enforced in Az there has been a lot of upset people lately. First i think people need to figure out that it is a law thats being enforced!!!! But people are too scared to speak up and say they support it in fear of being called a racist. Its totally insane. I really belive that the group of people that maybe are more likely to be breaking the law in the first place are using the racist slur in order to try and stop it being enforced. Ive heard a lot of sides. Some say they own the land. Some say they are being targted (again that goes back to racist). Some say they cant afford the high fees of becomming legal and some even are using the church as a way to try and make it right that there in fact breaking the law. Put aside the fact there trying to turn this into a racist issue and then you come down to the fact that they are breaking the law. I dont know how many ways you can sugar coat it but thats what it is. And what are they teaching there kids? Its okay to break a law. Does that not run a chance that when they are older it will be easier for them to break laws knowing how easy and how little respect there parents had to one? Thats what i question. As far as races and groups. No one is better then another and we all get the chance to apply for green cards and citizenship regardless of what color or race we are. Thats the great thing about the USA you can do that here. But they choose not to and no matter what reasons they come up with again bottom line is they are breaking a law that Az are now standing up to enforce. They are just trying to turn it into a racist issue to stop it once again. Thats what people always use when they dont like something. Having sat though three swearing in of new citizenships the past year, one being my own its proof that anyone can do it if they really want too. Each time there were around two hundred people being swored in from around 67 countries. Some stood and talked about how long it took them to get to that point and the stuggles and the thousands of dollors. But what great examples they are that they did it to there friends, families and kids. I think everyone should attend one of those they are really amazing and its great to see the wonderful people that do it the legal way. My point is that america is a free country and anyone can do it if they put there mind too it. You have choices to make and some people have decided to not do it the legal way and it does pull the communtiy down and cause all kinds of problems in many ways. I wont go into those. No im not a racist, i grew up in east london and i was one of just a few whites in school. I grew up with many races and i was rasied to respect all. There are good and bad in every country, race and church. Would i be offended if i had to prove my citizenship because after all i do have an accent still? No i wouldnt and i wouldnt turn it into a racist issue also. I would see that people were enforcing the laws. I really hope that utah does stop being chicken and starts enforcing laws, after all why have them if your not going to. But im not holding my breath. If i had been unable to get a green card for whatever reason, money or the other reasons i hear, then i would have not stayed here. It would have been a better life lesson for my kids to have learnt then its okay to break laws if it suits you and makes it easier then doing it the hard way. For anyone that wants to live here there is a legal way to do it. Its not easy and its not cheap but you can do it. And for those of you that say that whites have it easier thats not the case at all. Ask any of my sons how easy it was for them there be happy to tell you the truth. Its a lot of money, paperwork and running around, almost a full time job in itself. The bottom line is, its not legal to live here without a green card otherwise i would have moved my parents over here long ago, moreso why my mum was dieing of cancer but its not legal so we didnt. And yes there white but its still not easy, really!!!!!!!!!!! Like i said anyone can get a green card or citizenship but it will cost money, paperwork and running around. But it can be done. Stop turning it into a racist issue and if you love this country enough to want to live here then get a green card, the country will be thilled to accept you.

There are a few facts to consider that might help you understand why people feel like it is a racist law. Latino people that are legal, whether they immigrated here legally or born in this country, will be profiled for the color of their skin. This is unconstitutional because we are protected against unlawful search and seizure as citizens of America. So those legal Latinos that are profiled, their rights as American citizens are being taken away due to their genetics.
ReplyDeleteI really truly respect you, Jay, and Lee for going through the legal process. I know it is definitely not easy and I'm extremely grateful that I haven't gone through what you have had to go through! I agree that people who live in this country need to be legal. Especially for the sake of those who have gone through the pain of the process. I just think that this law is not a very constitutional law and it takes away the rights of people who don't deserve it.
I still belive thats what they have turned it into to protect there families from anyone enforcing the law. My friend at work is legal but her family is not so shes doing the same thing. I still think if they have to prove there legal, so what!!! they have proof so its okay. Its only about color of skin cause thereve made it that way. The bottom line is its gotton out of hand and how else can they enforce it. I guess doing better at the boarders but that dont seem to be working. I admire az for doing something about it when everyone else is too chicken too. They dont want to be legal and thats it, they like the way they are whatever race they are or they would change it. They gave amnesty to them in the 80s and at that time said they would do better at the boarders. Well guess what they want it again. It has to stop! Some countries you could get shot or put in jail for being there without a passport but here there given everything plus some. The only way to stop it is to check people. Im sure people like myself with accents could also be asked. I wont take offense i have proof. If that what it takes then so be it. They need to stop using there color no one cares, if they want to become legal they can do it just like everyone else.
ReplyDeleteI respect you too Krista. Its good we dont always have to agree isnt it. lol.
Some people think the AZ law is going to enable all police officers to stop everyone who has darker skin to ask for proof of citizenship but the law clearly states that someone cannot be targeted purely based race or nationality. It says there must be 'lawful contact' made before they can ask for anything related to being here illegally. So they are only going to be checking people that are already dealing with a police officer for violating another law. If you get pulled over while driving or arrested I think they should check everyone's status.
ReplyDeleteLatinos make up more than a third of the population of Arizona. I hardly think the police have enough time to pull over 1 in 3 people. And many of the police officers are themselves going to be Latino and I doubt they're going to be conducting racial profiling.
The fact that the Arizona law is worded verbatim from the US statute pertaining to illegal entry into the US isn't getting enough attention. Arizona is doing nothing but adopting the same laws the US Government has. They are doing this so they have the ability to enforce the laws that the US Government has failed to enforce for years.
I also think we need to stop giving out driver privilege cards, welfare, in-state tuition and any and all tax funded services to anyone who is here illegally.
I agree that the border needs to be guarded. We need to move our us armed services back to the United States and defend our country against those wanting to come in illegally. We have no idea who is in our country right now and the current border protection is doing little to change that.
Thank you Carole for explaining that. You are up on the law more then i am and im glad thats the way its going to be. I fully support Az, i know many are too scared to admit they are. I can only hope that Utah also does the same.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I support the law also. It's frustrating and personally is very hurtful that some people think you are being racist by supporting this law.
ReplyDeleteFor myself one of my biggest concerns is that we do not have control over who enters the country. Just as people from Mexico know the security on our border is hardly there, so do people that want to come to the United States to do us harm. Those are people I am very concerned over.
How can we say it is okay for people from Mexico to come here illegally because they want a better life but not allow people from Sudan that want to come here that same ability? Illegal is illegal, there is no way around it. I'm sure there are people all over the world that would love to come here and would be willing to do any job just to have a better life but no one is saying they should be allowed to come and stay illegally. So I don't understand why some feel it is okay for one group to do that? That could be perceived as being racist. You're allowing one group of people to do something that others are not.
And how can people say that people that are here illegally have done nothing wrong? They have broken a federal law. That doesn't mean that they are a horrible person and that they are going to Hell but they have broken a law. And until the law is changed it should be enforced.
I'm all for changes into the immigration process but I do not want to hear about people that are not even here legally marching and telling us that we have to change our laws for them. Become a lawful resident or citizen and take part in the process but don't break a law and then tell us we need to just forget about it.
