Yeah i know. I dont post for weeks and then i do three posts in one day!!! Thus is life! Well in last post i mentioned we did something special for Carole for Mothers Day. I was involved in fact in doing something special for two mothers involving Wicked. Heres the story. I had never heard of Wicked and when i did i wasnt very impressed. I never liked Wizard of Oz. In fact i hated it. My mother loved it. I guess it was the big movie when she was a little girl and so couldnt wait to sit with me and see if and yeah i let her down big time. I hated it. Sorry but i just did. So hearing there was a show about the story before wizard of oz didnt get me too excited. Carole and a lady i work with Margie for years were full of Wicked and how wonderful it was but that they never could afford to see it. They read the books, they played the CD, they did it all. When the girls and i went to New York a few years ago going to this show was part of the pkg we got. I admit i wasnt too thilled but Carole and Margie both told me how much they wanted to go and that i would love it. Well i did! In fact later that year when Heather and i went to London to visit my mum who was undergoing chemo at the time i brought tickets for it again in london for my mums birthday. She was such a trooper and wasnt feeling good that day at all but went with us and of course she loved it too. I think she would have loved it more had she not been so sick but its a memory i will always have and im so glad we went with her and my dad. So i went twice that year. It came out in slc a few years ago but right after i had seen it twice so i didnt go again here, lol. Anyway in Jan i heard it was going to be here again this summer. My thoughts went to Carole again and how much she would love it. I knew with them saving for a house it wasnt in there budget. I also remembered how she had lined up for hours once to get me celine dion tickets for christmas from all the kids and well it gave me an idea. It really wouldnt have been possible without the huge donation of funds from my dad and Heather and Dan as the tickets of course were just over 300.00. But everyone in the family all put as much as they could in to make this possible for her. We have been sitting on these tickets for three months and were just so excited to give them to her. She had tears in her eyes and i know we made her mothers day. We made it a combined birthday gift too as the tickets are vaild for around her birthday in july. Lee said she had just been saying last week that she has had the cd for seven years and never gone and yet hayley (who has tickets yet again for hawaii later this year) and myself just keep on going. lol. So Lee sang her the song I HOPE YOUR HAPPY NOW lol. (from wicked if you dont know the show). It was great us as a family got together and did this for one of us, what a wonderful family we have.
Okay, Second set of wicked tickets. Margie at work i have know for 11 years. I love her to death. I can tell her anything. She had her first baby at christmas after 16 years of marriage and years and years of trying. Hes adorable. But its been a very very hard few months for her, i wont go into details. Anyway i was telling my boss Jen about what we had done for Carole (a few months ago) and Jens like, Oh i wish we could do something like that for Margie. Hmm, well of course i just jumped all over that and im like, Jen we can, lets do it. lol. So we spent two months in secret collecting money from the staff, the doctors and ourselves every payday to build up 300.00. Not easy when everyone is broke. We had raffles with Jens yummy cakes and lotions and I tune cards. Finally we had enough and Jen got the tickets. Jen and i told Margie about it last week. That was also another wonderful moment. She also had tears in her eyes. And im so thilled that two people that i have know for ever that wanted to go to see this wonderful show are finally going!!!! And doing things for others certainly has its rewards. Ralph also got tickets for me for my birthday in july. lol. We go july 22nd and then stay the night at the hilton downtown. What a wonderful guy. The following weekend we will be in vegas with the celine dion tickets which dad and i had for christmas. lol. And we also have tickets for the donny and marie show that weekend also. Oh and in june we are going to the osmonds fundraiser for deaf children concert in west jordan so im not going short on shows myself. lol. I will be very spoiled myself this summer.
Anyway thanks everyone for helping me make dreams come true this year for two very speical people that i love.
If anyone gets a chance to go see this show. YOu so need to go. Its worth every penny i promise!
What a wonderful thing you did for your daughter-in-law! I'm glad you get to go for your Bday, too! We also get to go for my son's this summer! Howard waited in line in the freezing cold for about 5 hours the first time it came to SLC, so our married kids could see it..We first saw it at Pantages in Hollywood before our son's mission and have loved it ever since!
ReplyDeleteOh i can so see Howard doing that, what a great guy. Not sure if ralph would, lol. It is a great show and one you can see over and over. I wish i could afford to take my whole family, maybe one day. lol.
ReplyDeleteYes, thank you so much for doing that and thinking about me! If I had a bucket list seeing Wicked would totally be on it. I started playing the cd in the car again yesterday. Lee is thrilled!
ReplyDeleteI need to get that cd and start getting in the mood for it again. lol.
