You Can Teach An Old Dog New Tricks

My Mum taught me to knit at eight years old. It was something that was passed down in england beween mothers and daughters. I tried to teach my girls at age 8 but they never had a lot of interest. So it will die with me i guess, even tho its been in our generations for many many years. Anyway although i could knit ive never been able to crochet. My Great Aunt Amy who was my Nans sister used to make wonderful crochet items like ive never seen. I have a few of them still here which she made me. She also made Heather a darling white blanket which i used for all four of my younger kids blessings. And when I had Lucy she made her a darling pink crochet dress. We had Lucys picture taken in it at six weeks old but i cant find it anywhere or i would have posted it here. We were saving it for Lucys daughter one day but i for the life of me cant find it anymore. Hopefully one day it will turn up. Anyway Amy was going to teach me but i moved out here before she had a chance. I felt sad when she passed away over ten years ago as i knew i never would have the chance to learn now. But luckily for me my awesome boss crochets amazing blankets like im sure i could never make in a million years. She offered to teach me and so during my two breaks at work and my lunch break every day she taught me to make this above blanket. I admit im very very slow and where i can knit a blanket in two weeks, this one took me two months to do at work. But its a good hobby to relax me from the stresses of work. Im so grateful that Jen is helping me learn something ive always wanted to learn and at my age i though would never happen. I finished the above one and will give it to Leanna. I am right now working on a blue one and then i will do a pink one to put away for future grandbabies. Then i might be brave enough to learn more stitches and try a different blanket. Its slow but rewarding and im enjoying it. Hopefully my grandbabies will enjoy my crochet blankets as much as i hope they like my knitted ones.

  1. My mom is big into knitting and crocheting. She has tried to teach me and it goes in one ear and out the other. I don't have the patience. But I've enjoyed what she has done for me haha

  2. I knit, too! I have a harder time crocheting, since I can't see the holes with my astigmatism :)
